Today was a hard day. There haven’t been very many of these of late. The kind that tires you, drains you, wrings the life out of you. The one good thing these days do is they don’t leave you much time to think about what to do next. Something is always around the corner. You’re doing one thing, and already thinking about the next, wondering if you need to followup on the last.
On days like these, when I’m already dead tired and running busy, it’s much easier to take on more work. To wrap up difficult work. And to accomplish more than what is usually possible. Of course, life is a fractal. That means this concept extends not just to days but entire phases of life itself.
Something akin to a sense of pressure being necessary to perform well. If your days are too loose, too unstructured, too noncommittal, you’re much more likely to fall of the wagon. And if it’s the other way around, you’re much more likely to be more productive in general. Or at least, I am. I think I am.
I don’t know if it’s the momentum, neurotic energy, or a subtle identity shift that causes this. The identity shift that makes your internal monologue say, “I’m a person who is doing so much. Which means I’m a person who can do so much more.” I suspect there’s circular logic in their somewhere.
The act of writing this musing itself, after what was probably a break of day or two is me shining under pressure. It’s not easy, writing these things. Especially when I’m going through a dry spell after churning out one that has an interesting idea or is particularly well written.
Dare to be boring. Dare to be commonplace.
here’s me trying to do that
