I was a huge fan of using the 'not just x, but also y’construct in my writings. That’s a logical way of thinking for me. A rhythmic way to expound an idea.
Unfortunately, since the Claudification of the internet, that has gone on to become a telltale sign of AI slop. The association is so strong, I hard some algorithms and methods use the occurence of that construction as an indicator.
It’s ironic that some of the best writers across corporate had their beautiful sentences stolen. And now, when those writers use the sentences that were theirs - they get branded as having used AI.
It makes sense, since only the best and the most frequent is what has gone into LLMs’ training data.
Of course, this is more striking in the visual modality where an artist’s distinctive style is much easier to identify.
I once read a comic where the AI copied an artist’s style, got a lot more famous than the artist, and then when the artist created their own authentic creations, the public called them out for copying the ‘AI style’.
That comic is the entire evidence I have for such a thing happening frequently. That’s enough evidence for now.
There are many ideas to be explored and cultivated here. Such as, the fictional case of a writer who hasn’t invented their writing style for ages but is now having to because it’s like AI slop. Or, some weird coincidence where a past prolific writer’s writing style is found to match uncannily with LLM writing of today making people wonder if the writer had a time machine.
