Break Rules

The downside and potential causes of sincerity

Want things badly enough that you’re willing to break rules for them.

I don’t want things badly enough that I’m willing to break rules for them.

This comes from me sitting alone at the office, wondering what to do next. That over-optimisation problem is something worth a post by itself. Not now, though. Not right now. Focus. Focus - which itself is worthy of another post.

Now, on the breaking of rules. Traffic rules. Social rules. Cultural rules. College rules. Office rules. Self-imposed rules.

I need to message people on LinkedIn. Okay. What for? Find out people who are where I’d like to be and then see what got them there. What’s relevant and what’s not.

The other thing triggering this thought was me coming to the office today when really I didn’t need to. Most people haven’t. Someone as sincere as MSB didn’t.

It’s partially a matter of luck. Partially a matter of planning things. Then, there’s the matter of ‘availability’ and confounding it with output quality or output impact. Which is another thing that needs to change.

Going from input to output oriented mentality is an important aspect to change when trying to bring about this change.

Doing all the right things. Doing all the things right. That’s easy to do.

Then, there’s the entirely other aspect of being yourself vs doing the right things, especially when it’s amply obvious that what you’re doing is definitely not the right thing.

Is it necessary to talk to people? Is it necessary to want to talk to people? Why not do things you love? And so on and so forth.

Of course this isn’t going anywhere. Someday, hopefully, it will?

If it resonated, you know what to do.
