Fell ill, ill, ill

Part of the reason I did not write for the last couple of days is that I had fallen ill.

Part of the reason I did not write for the last couple of days is that I had fallen ill.

I absolutely hate falling ill. It’s the worst kind of downtime.

There isn’t enough mental energy to do anything meaningful. Can’t even look at screens properly.

And yet, there isn’t enough self-control to actually stay away from screens. Reddit, Techcrunch, whatnot.

Pile on to this sleepless nights with many interruptions that turn into frustrating rabbit holes discovering Alex Spiro’s exploits, and you have a recipe for delayed recovery at best, a slippery downward spiral at worst.

Before I got distracted, I had been meaning to write about focus. Focus not just as something to be done over a 45 minute sprint as I finish a task. Focus - as something to be maintained as a constnat vigil while I go through life, brushing shoulders with its various solicitations.

Anyway, on the illness. I suspect it’s swine flu. There’s a good chance.

I had a long run on Sunday, which must have hit me hard while I was already low. My IT band ache on Monday was paralleled only by the lower and upper back ache this flu gave me. At least paracetamol was working. I slept on and off (2 h on, 1 h off) probably till the next morning, attending to messages in the meantime.

The old testament God in me doesn’t believe in excusing yourself from work cuz you’re sick. It’s something weak-os and kaamchors do. Not I.

Yet, here I am.

If it resonated, you know what to do.
